This project critically evaluates current transmission expansion planning practices in the electricity sectors of the Latin American and Caribbean region, considering criteria, methodology, transmission system expansion tools, environmental and social criteria, and other relevant aspects, in order to identify strengths and weaknesses in existing processes, and propose recommendations to improve the efficiency, sustainability, and adaptability of transmission systems in the region. The project reviews the state of the art and international best practices on transmission expansion planning, reviews the planning processes of five countries in the Latin American and Caribbean region (both at the regulatory/institutional level and in terms of modelling and optimisation tools) and makes recommendations for improvement.
